I’m Moving Back to California

Hi friends, family, and all other readers. I have news!

I have been living in Southeast Asia, mainly Singapore, for the last year and a half. My parents live in the region, so I have been staying with them and traveling elsewhere. But this period is coming to an end tomorrow. I’m flying to San Francisco on the 21st, and will be in quarantine at a hotel in the Bay Area until I can get tested. In short, I’m moving back to the Bay Area after seven years away.

I’ll be looking for a job, while pursuing my own projects. I’m looking forward to using my camera to document the built environment, and sharing that with you here. I hope to advocate for a new urbanism. I also look forward to meeting old and new friends from a socially responsible distance.

The pandemic has changed many things for everyone, and I have no illusion about my situation being outlandish. Still it is surreal, and I’m grieving. I’ll miss every friend I’ve made here, my parents, and my partner. I’m nervous about international travel, and I hope the N95 mask I got from a trip to India will be effective. I am excited to get to the other side of this god forsaken rock, but I hope the jet lag isn’t that bad. I hope I can stay in touch with all of you. I hope I don’t catch the virus! And I hope I can become a productive member in the Bay Area community again.
