Eden by Heatherwick

Eden is the product of Heatherwick Studios and Swire Properties. Standing 20 stories tall, it offers 20 luxury apartments for a potentially resilient market overlooking the especially affluent Ardmore neighborhood in Singapore. The building’s design plays on the theme of Singapore as a garden city. The architect referred to the founding Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew, who had hoped Singapore to be like a ‘city in a garden.’ This mantra has been a powerful rallying call for the city in the 21st Century, and this building is certainly carrying on that tradition.

Looking inside The Dim Sum Building

It’s been labeled as one of Singapore’s most Instagrammable destinations, but its success goes far beyond the glib accolades. For this post, I spent an evening at Nanyang Technological University’s Learning Hub, known as the Hive by some, and the Dim Sum building by most. After the hours of observation and photographing, I’ve found myself incredibly comfortable within NTU’s campus, something hard to imagine for most other school campuses. Though I find myself pessimistic about some of the flashy modern constructions being designed for the rendering, there is little doubt that the Hive was designed for the student.
